Cardio

Let’s work together to make your heart and lungs stronger! At the Chapel Gym, we have a wide range of equipment to help you in your cardio fitness routine. Cardiovascular fitness is the foundation of good health. At the Chapel Gym we keep the standard cardio equipment like treadmills, bikes, rowing machines, and cross trainers and we also supply some more unusual kit as well. This includes equipment such as the Grappler, Jacob’s Ladder, air bikes, ski orbs, and hand bikes.

Free Weights

Using free weights is the best and most underrated way to build strength. With two deadlifting platforms, three sets of dumbbells, and a full array of barbells and plates, you can have your pick of free weights. In addition to free weights, we have an extensive range of machines which are ideal if you’re training alone, lifting heavy, targeting a specific muscle group, or carrying an injury. Most of our machines are made by Hammer Strength, a brand renowned for quality and a natural range of movement.

Calisthenics

Building strength using your own body weight is a simple yet effective method. It’s especially great for increasing both core and functional strength. At the Chapel Gym, we have a large calisthenics rig and many other bits of kit to enable you to get a great workout – all without ever touching a weights plate!

Combat Area

During the daytime, our large matted area is available for all members to use. It’s a perfect space for some high intensity training (HIIT) including skip, swing, slam, balance, or punch your way to optimum fitness.

Note: During weekday evenings, the combat area is closed for fight classes run by Siam Academy.

Personal Trainers

We have a small team of highly qualified PTs who work at the Chapel Gym. They are available for free inductions (essential for those who have never used a gym before) and can also be booked privately for one-to-one personal training.

As a valued part of our team, our PTs are very happy to help you get the most out of your gym experience.

Pastoral Support

We like to think of the Chapel Gym as a big family and members are often a great support to one another. All our front-line staff have been trained in mental health first aid, however a few in our team have a specific role in offering support.

Paul Frost

Paul is a minister of a local church and has lots of experience of supporting people going through difficult times in life. Whether concerned about emotional, mental, or spiritual health, he is here to ensure you always have someone ready to lend an ear.

Tim Slater

Alongside Paul, Tim is a sports minister and is very happy to offer pastoral support to anyone in need. Plus, if you are interested in playing recreational football, Tim is your man!

Both Paul and Tim are often at the gym but if you would like to get in touch, please email hello@thechapelgym.org.uk. They’re always happy to chat about anything you need support with.

Siam Academy

Fighting sports are an excellent way to get fit, increase confidence, and make friends. Our close friends at Siam Academy are a nationally renowned club, specialising in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Mixed Martial Arts. Under the leadership of Den Palmer, there are classes for all ages and abilities during weekday evenings in our combat area. Please ask at reception for more information.
